Internet’s Impact on Television
By now, the hand-wringing over the Internet's impact on print media is
a familiar story. But what about the way the Internet is transforming
local television news? Some Idaho stations are jumping wholeheartedly
onto the Web, while others are taking more cautious steps. Could the
Internet provide a level playing field for television and print mediums?
For the answers to these and other questions, your Southwest Chapter of
the Idaho Press Club is gathering an exciting panel designed to pique
your interest:
- Mark Danielson is the General Manager of the KIFI News Group
in Idaho Falls. His station, Local News 8, an ABC affiliate, is
aggressively jumping on the Internet.
- Don Day is the digital
media producer at KTVB News Group and a prolific news provider, both
through KTVB's Web site and through his own blog, IdahoRadioNews.com.
(And he's also on your Idaho Press Club's state board.)
- Vickie
Holbrook is the managing editor of the Idaho Press-Tribune, and has
pushed her own newsroom onto the Web in different ways.
- Our
Moderator: Kevin Richert is the editorial page editor of the Idaho
Statesman and a prolific blogger and Internet presence, via his own Web
log through the Idaho Statesman. (Guess what: he's the Idaho Press
Club's vice president statewide.)
Together, these panelists and their moderator will provide what United
Nations ambassadors refer to as "a frank exchange of views." Be there
to provide your own, to get that one burning question answered, or to
find out just how your job will change as a result of the Internet's
influence.
