Two high-quality training opportunities for Idaho journalists during our IPC banquet weekend…

By Melissa Davlin, IPC Vice President

In addition to this year’s Idaho Press Club Best of 2018 Awards Banquet, the Idaho Press Club is proud to offer two days of training. Plan to attend one or both. These training sessions are free to attend, regardless of press club membership, but you do need to register in advance.

Covering the Courts: On Saturday, April 27th, from 8:30 to 3:30, we’re partnering with Attorneys for Civic Education, the Idaho Supreme Court and the University of Idaho College of Law for a training session on covering the courts in Idaho. Attendees will hear from both legal professionals and Idaho journalists on how the courts work, how to best access information, how to understand rulings, and more. Approximately 30 reporters and communications professionals attended last year’s inaugural courts training, and we received great feedback. Those who attended in 2018 are welcome to come again, as this year’s session will have additional information.

SPJ Google Tools training: On Sunday, April 28th, Society of Professional Journalists trainer Daniel Petty will give two two-hour sessions on how journalists and editors can use Google Tools for reporting and storytelling. These tools will help reporters in newsrooms large and small.
